This is the class blog for the inaugural running of COMM 597: Social Media Evaluation 7 Analytics for the MACT program at the University of Alberta. Social media sparked an information revolution by putting knowledge production and communication tools in the hands of the masses. Today large numbers of users publish rich content, annotate it with descriptive text, and engage in discussions and collaborations with others presenting opportunities and challenges for strategic implementation of social media. This course will explore the methods and techniques of social media evaluation and analysis that help to inform business strategy including social network analysis, linguistic and statistical analysis, prioritization of metrics, and defining and measuring success. When and how to apply these techniques, as well as understanding, their limitations, will also be covered in the course.
